Mangaluru: The Department of Civil Engineering, NITK, (National Institute of Technology, Karnataka,  Surathkal) organised a three-day International Conference on “Climate Resilient Construction and Building Materials” from March 3 to 5, 2023. The conference witnessed more than 280 participants including practitioners, industrialists, scientists, researchers, academicians & students from all over the world.

The conference aimed at raising awareness and adopting sustainable and climate-resilient construction methods and building materials for infrastructure developments. Since the effects of climate change are increasingly evident, it is essential for civil engineers to understand the importance of using materials that are designed to withstand extreme weather conditions.
By utilizing materials that are designed to be more resilient to the effects of climate change, civil engineers can help ensure that the structures they build are able to withstand the changing climate and remain safe and secure for years to come. Additionally, using climate-resilient materials will help reduce the cost of construction and maintenance, as well as minimize the environmental impact of the structures.

Renowned researchers from all over the world were invited to present their ideas and research developments in the area of climate-resilient construction and building materials since climate change is very evident, and the effects of the same are much visible, therefore, in order to mitigate the further damage to our environment, researchers, & civil engineers should adopt sustainable methods.

The chief guest for the conference was Dr Venkatesh Kodur, Distinguished Professor (Michigan State University, Lansing, USA), and Dr Vasant Matsagar, Dogra Chair Professor (IIT Delhi).
