Mangaluru: St Aloysius (Deemed-to-be University) marked a momentous occasion with the Golden Jubilee celebration of the National Service Scheme (NSS), a testament to half a century of service and community engagement.
The esteemed guests, including Dr Gananath Shetty Yekkar, Ex-State NSS Officer, and Rev. Fr Melwyn Pinto SJ, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions, alongside Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, Dr Alwyn D’Sa, Registrar, and other notable dignitaries were welcomed to the event.
The program honoured the legacy of past NSS program officers and alumni, acknowledging their tireless dedication to fostering leadership and social responsibility.
Keynote addresses underscored the significant milestones and impact achieved by NSS over five decades, emphasizing the enduring commitment to societal welfare.
Cultural presentations by NSS volunteers added vibrancy to the celebration, reflecting the diversity and talent within the university community.
An interactive alumni session provided a platform for alumni, including Dr Dennis Fernandes (1981), Cleeta (2014-2017), and Sajith DCosta (2017-2020), to share their transformative experiences and insights gained through NSS involvement.
The interactive alumni session was expertly moderated by Dr Richard Gonsalves, NSS program officer during the years 1992 to 1995, facilitating insightful discussions and reflections on the enduring legacy of NSS involvement.
Furthermore, special recognition was bestowed upon Dr Ravindra Swamy for his outstanding achievement in receiving the Best NSS Officer State Award in 2009-2010.
Akanksha Suvarna, a student of II B.Sc. was honored for her exceptional representation of the institution at the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi in the year 2023-2024, symbolizing the university’s commitment to nurturing leaders and change makers.
These accolades served as a poignant reminder of the profound impact of NSS on individual lives and society at large, inspiring all present to continue the journey of service and excellence.
