St Aloysius PUC celebrates Kannada Rajyotsava at District Prison

Mangaluru: On the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava, the students of the Centre for Social Concern at St Aloysius PU College organized a meaningful visit to the district prison.

Members of the Centre for Social Concern and three staff members, Diana Dias, Sharitha D’Silva, and Marina Cutinha participated in the program. The program emphasized the values of cultural pride and also reminded the students of their role as responsible citizens, encouraging them to contribute positively to society and make the right choices in their lives.

The members were warmly received by the Superintendent, B. T. Obleshappa, along with the prison officials Rajendra Korpade, S. S. Vannal, Chenamma Bidari, Vijaykumar Sanka, and the counselor, Denis D’Souza. Fashath Kulsum, the president of the Centre for Social Concern, extended a warm welcome to all the participants.

Anvitha Rao and Ruksania, from the Center for Social Concern, served as capable comperes throughout the program, ensuring its smooth flow.

The program featured an insightful address by Rajendra Korpade, the Jailor of the District Prison. He passionately spoke about the importance of raising awareness among the youth regarding addiction and corruption.

Sharitha D’Silva, the coordinator of the Centre for Social Concern, shed light on how the college’s diverse associations and centres foster student growth, highlighting their multifaceted contributions to student upliftment. She emphasized raising awareness among the youth about the challenges faced by incarcerated individuals and the need to work toward creating a more just and equitable society.

The students exhibited their active involvement in the event, showcasing their talents through various dance and music performances. Additionally, they put on a thought-provoking skit that emphasized the significance of positive influences in one’s life.

Shravan Acharya, a member of the Centre for Social Concern, expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the presence and support of everyone who contributed to the success of the meaningful program. This visit was not only an educational experience but also a meaningful opportunity for personal growth and reflection, reinforcing the idea that every individual can make a difference in their community.
