New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah on Wednesday said it is imperative that the BJP wins the general elections in the ‘best interest’ of the country, in the Hindi heartland and in other places as well.
The BJP Chief said that while they accept the results of the recently-concluded assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, there seems to be little connection between the state elections and the impending 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“The results in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are definitely not favourable for the BJP, but it is not right to link them with the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. State polls can’t be linked to Lok Sabha poll results; both elections are fought on separate issues. We accept the people’s mandate (in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh); we will introspect on the poll results,” HT quoted Amit Shah saying at Republic Summit in Mumbai.
Talking about the challenge that ‘Grand Alliance’ may pose, Shah said that it was only an illusion and it simply doesn’t exist.
The recent five state elections favoured the Congress, thereby bringing a major setback to the BJP.
