Delhi : On Tuesday morning, Delhi awoke to find itself blanketed in dense fog, significantly reducing visibility to around 50 meters and causing disruptions in flight operations. The Delhi airport issued an advisory to passengers as numerous domestic and international flights faced delays due to the foggy conditions.
“Though landings and takeoffs are ongoing at Delhi Airport, non-CAT III compliant flights may experience delays. Passengers are urged to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest flight updates. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused,” stated the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in a post on X.

CAT III instruments are essential anti-fog landing systems enabling planes to land safely in low-visibility scenarios like dense fog, snow, or rain, with a minimum visibility of up to 50 meters.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin on Tuesday morning, Palam and Safdarjung areas continued to report dense fog conditions with visibility as low as 50 meters. The bulletin highlighted humidity levels at 100%, with dry bulb and dew point temperatures ranging between 10-11 degrees Celsius and wind speeds of 3-7 kmph, contributing to the formation of dense fog over Delhi.
The IMD recorded the minimum temperature in the national capital at nine degrees Celsius, with the maximum expected to reach 22 degrees Celsius.
Furthermore, dense fog conditions persisted across several states in North India, as reported by the weather department.
“At 0530 hours IST today, fog conditions were observed as follows: Very dense fog in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, northwest Rajasthan, and East Uttar Pradesh; dense fog in isolated pockets of Delhi, Bihar, and Odisha; moderate fog in isolated pockets of West Uttar Pradesh,” the department noted.
