New Delhi: In a public address in Amethi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge made a bold prediction regarding the outcome of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, stating that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will suffer a significant defeat. Kharge dismissed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious target of securing 400 seats, asserting that the BJP would struggle to even reach 100 seats.

Kharge accused the BJP of attempting to stoke division among the people of Amethi and Raebareli, traditional strongholds of the Congress party. He questioned the BJP’s commitment to completing pending projects in the region and criticized their alleged neglect of Amethi and Raebareli’s development needs.

Highlighting the historical connection between the Gandhi family and the people of Amethi, Kharge emphasized the hard work done by Rajeev Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi in the region.

Amethi, formerly a bastion of the Congress party, saw a shift in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections when BJP’s Smriti Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi. Irani, also present in Amethi, took aim at Rahul Gandhi, claiming that his visit was met with sparse crowds and alleging that the Gandhi family declined an invitation to a significant religious ceremony, further fueling discontent among the local populace.

The dynamics in the region have shifted, with Sonia Gandhi opting to contest Rajya Sabha elections instead of Lok Sabha this time, a move interpreted by the BJP as an acknowledgment of their diminishing influence in the area.

Both parties are gearing up for a fiercely contested electoral battle in these crucial constituencies, with each side making strong assertions about their prospects and attacking the other’s track record and leadership.
