New Delhi: A 31-year-old woman wore a burqa, broke into her mother’s home, and stole jewellery and cash, worth lakhs in all, in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area, the police said.
On January 30, a woman, identified as Kamlesh, approached the police about a robbery at her Sevak Park home in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar.

In her complaint, Kamlesh claimed gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs and ₹ 25,000 in cash were stolen from her home on January 30 between 2 pm and 2:30 pm.

The police launched a problem but found no signs of forced entry – the locks on the main door and the cupboard were found to be intact.

After that, the team went through the local CCTV footage and noticed a suspicious entry into the home made by a woman wearing a burqa. After a technical investigation by the police, Shweta, the older daughter of Kamlesh, 31, was taken into custody.

During questioning, the accused admitted to the police that she planned this burglary because her mother loved her younger sister more. She added that she was also somewhat indebted and that her feelings of jealousy and hate had overcome her.

Shweta revealed to the police that she came up with this complex scheme to settle her debts. She claimed that her mother had made the majority of the jewelry she took for her sister’s wedding, but that some of it was her own that she had asked to be kept.

Then, according to the police, she disclosed how she gradually prepared for the robbery day.

To start the plan, Shweta first left her mother’s house in January, according to the police. Kamlesh assisted her older daughter in setting up her new residence for a few days. When her younger daughter left for work, she would visit Shweta at her home. Shweta made use of this circumstance.

Shweta first stole the keys to her mother’s house on the day of the loot, leaving her new house under the guise of going to buy vegetables.

After changing into the burqa in a public restroom, she proceeded to her mother’s residence, unlocked the main door and cupboard locker using the keys, and fled with cash and jewelry. According to the police, Shweta pretended to be concerned and upset when Kamlesh told her about the robbery. They added that she believed no one would suspect her.

According to reports, Shweta informed the police that she had sold the jewelry. The police have succeeded in retrieving them, though.
