Jalpaiguri: Huge rains lashed Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal destructing normal livelihood.

The region has been witnessing heavy rainfall since last four days, due to which common life has come to standstill in the district. Meanwhile, water has entered in many residential areas, which has affected the day-to-day activities of people.

The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Jawans have been deployed to control the situation of area.

SSB, Jawans are repairing the embankments that have been damaged due to the heavy rainfall. As of now, no causality has been reported.

The government had set up relief camps, with supply of food and medicines, across the state where affected residents were seeking shelter.

Annual monsoon season is vital for India as half of its cropland lacks irrigation. The rains support two-thirds of India’s 1.25 billion populations who live in rural areas and rely on farming. But excessive rains cause many problems such as floods, landslides and water-borne diseases.
