A wedding in Uttar Pradesh took a dramatic turn when a groom’s affectionate gesture towards his bride sparked a confrontation between their families. The incident occurred during the varmala ceremony at the wedding venue in Hapur’s Ashok Nagar on Monday.
Following the exchange of kisses between the newlyweds, tension escalated as the bride’s family reacted strongly, resulting in a physical altercation with the groom’s relatives on stage. The situation quickly spiraled out of control, with the bride’s family members wielding sticks and assaulting the groom’s family. As a result, six individuals, including the bride’s father, sustained injuries.
Law enforcement intervened, detaining seven individuals from both sides. The injured were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
According to police reports, the bride’s father had organized the weddings of his two daughters on the same night. While the first ceremony proceeded smoothly, the second event turned chaotic.
Conflicting accounts emerged regarding the incident, with the bride’s family accusing the groom of forcibly kissing her, while the groom claimed that the bride had requested the kiss.
Senior Hapur police officer Rajkumar Agarwal stated that no formal complaints have been lodged by either party yet. However, appropriate action will be taken upon receipt of complaints.
The six individuals involved in the altercation have been charged under section 151 of the Indian Penal Code for disturbing public peace.
