Gonda, Uttar Pradesh: A man working in Saudi Arabia reportedly gave triple talaq to his wife via WhatsApp after she selflessly donated a kidney to her ailing brother.
The wife, residing in Bairiyahi village in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district, informed her husband about the kidney donation, prompting him to issue the triple talaq. The husband’s action comes despite the practice of triple talaq being declared illegal and unconstitutional in India in 2019 under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.
The woman has filed a complaint with the police, who registered a case, stating that legal action will be taken. The Supreme Court has clarified that anticipatory bail could be granted in such cases, provided the complainant woman is heard before granting pre-arrest bail.
