Vijayapura: Gopal Karjol, the prominent BJP ticket aspirant, who was enraged after he was denied ticket to contest from Nagathan SC Reserved constituency, has finally decided to abide by the party’s decision.

It may be noted that Gopal, who is the son of Water Resources Minister, was seeking a ticket, however the party, at the last moment, chose to field Sanjeev Aihole, a relatively not so popular candidate.

After the decision of the party, a disappointed Gopal had called the meeting of his supporters to take a final decision.

During the meeting, the majority of the supporters had the common view that Gopal Karjol should contest as an independent rebel candidate.

Gopal had contested election on BJP ticket in 2018 polls, however he lost the election by small margin against JD (S) candidate Devanand Chavan.

Since he had already contested the election and had lost by a small margin, Gopal was confident of getting a ticket again.

After the denial of the ticket, the supporters vehemently wanted Gopal to contest as an independent candidate, however Gopal reportedly was not in favour and did not wish to take any decision in a hurry.

“He had sought time and wanted the High Command to reconsider the decision considering the winning prospects. However he had made it clear that he would still be with the party’s decision,” said one of the close confidants of Karjol.

Since the party stayed with its decision, Gopal has announced that he would abide by the order as a loyal party worker, he said.

As an indication to it, Gopal sent his younger brother Umesh Karjol to accompany Sanjeev Aihole as he filed the nomination papers on Thursday.

Meanwhile the sources said that Minister Karjol too was not in favour of any move of his son to rebel and go against the party’s decision. He did not want his son to be labeled as a rebel which could also harm the political prospects of both; father and sons in future.
