In honor of World Water Day, the Bengaluru water management body introduced the ‘Green Star Challenge’, a water conservation initiative targeting hotels and restaurants in the city. Amidst a critical water shortage, this program aims to safeguard the precious resource.
The initiative follows the mandate from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), which required the installation of aerators in taps used by bulk consumers. This move, initiated on Wednesday, was followed by an installation drive in various establishments including buildings, commercial sites, restaurants, luxury hotels, and industries on Friday.
V Ram Prasath Manohar, Chairman of BWSSB, unveiled the Green Star Challenge on World Water Day, emphasizing the urgency of achieving water self-sufficiency in Bengaluru within 99 days. He outlined five key principles for water conservation, ranging from efficient water usage to the promotion of innovative technologies like Artificial Intelligence and IoTs for bore well conservation.
Hotel Shangri-La became the pioneer in accepting the Green Star Challenge, committing to implement all five conservation measures within 30 days. Their successful conservation efforts will earn them the prestigious “Green Star” certification, which not only enhances their brand but also fosters awareness and action towards water conservation in the community.
