Bengaluru: The third suspected case of monkeypox in the State has been tested negative. A nine-year-old boy from Tibet who had travelled to the Mundagod Tibetan camp in the Uttara Kannada District from Belgium was hospitalised at a Hubballi hospital after showing symptoms of monkeypox, including skin rashes.

His sample was sent to the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) at Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute on Monday August 1 for monkeypox testing.

The child, his parents, and a Tibetan priest had arrived in India on July 1. He travelled to Nagpur in Maharashtra after arriving in Delhi and visiting a Tibetan camp in Himachal Pradesh.

He was transferred to a Hubballi hospital for treatment after showing symptoms of monkeypox when he arrived at the Mundagod Tibetan camp.

Health Department sources said that it could be a case of viral infection.
