Bengaluru: Soon, commuters can pay the BMTC bus fare using their Google Pay and other UPIs. The BMTC has bought over 9,000 ETMs through which ticket fares can be collected using UPIs.
According to the BMTC sources, 1,500 ETMs have already been distributed to the bus crew as part of the pilot project to collect ticket fares using UPI. By December 10, another 8,000 ETMs powered by android will be distributed to enable commuters to pay bus ticket fares easily.
According to sources, with this, BMTC is becoming the first public transport corporation to introduce a UPI-based pay system. This is expected to help the BMTC to come out of the change problem.
