Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah led a grand ceremony at Kanteerava Stadium on Sunday, where he raised the Kannada Rajyotsava flag and extended his well-wishes to the people of Karnataka. In a philanthropic gesture, he also announced a significant gift for government schools, pledging to provide “free electricity and clean drinking water to all government schools in the state.”

Presently, a majority of parents are enrolling their children in private English medium schools. Unfortunately, even the court has not been wholly supportive of our efforts, emphasizing the importance of allowing students to choose their preferred medium of instruction. The Chief Minister expressed his aspiration for politicians and bureaucrats to designate Kannada as the official language, and he intends to address this issue by writing to the Prime Minister, urging the central government to conduct competitive exams in Kannada.

The Chief Minister underscored the importance of providing high-quality education to every child in the nation. He acknowledged the challenge posed by the state’s diverse castes and religions but stressed that teachers and the education department must work together to ensure excellence in education. He suggested that students should, at the very least, receive their education in the Kannada medium up to the SSLC level. Additionally, he affirmed the commitment to supply free electricity and potable water to government schools, starting immediately.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, Madhu Bangarappa, Rizwan Arshad, and other officials were present at the flag hoisting ceremony.
