Bengaluru: After coming under attack for shifting the Padarayanapura riot accused to the Ramanagar jail, Deputy Chief Minister Ashwathnarayan has clarified that all the accused were tested and then sent to the jail.

Even as former CM H D Kumaraswamy, whose wife Anita represents the Ramanagar constituency, has been launching scathing attacks on the state government in connection with the Ramanagar jail episode, the DCM said that the intention behind shifting the accused to the jail in question was good.

“Parappana Agrahara was full, that is why we did not want to take a chance. Ramanagar was the best option. The accused were not shifted to Ramanagar to settle any political score, as is being portrayed now. Ramanagar was in the green zone, the accused were not sent there to make it a red zone,” he said.

He informed that all the accused who tested positive have been shifted to Victoria Hospital.

It may be recalled that five persons out of all the Padarayanapura riot accused tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday and Friday.

The state government has now come under attack from various quarters for lodging the accused at the Ramanagar jail, which was in the green zone.
