Bengaluru: Janata Dal (Secular) supremo and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda has written to Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, asking him to suspend a Yadgir district sub inspector for allegedly physically assaulting a JD(S) party worker.

Revealing the letter written to CM BSY while addressing the media on Friday, October 25, HDD said that it was not right to physically assault a party worker for political reasons.

In the letter, he had written, “Irrespective of the political party that comes to power, it is not ethical to assault a party worker of the opposition party. Nobody should entertain such an act.”

He added, “The police personnel behaved inhumanely by putting a revolver in the party worker’s mouth and torturing him. He has also threatened the life of the worker by saying that he will ‘encounter’ him. The Yadgir SI should be suspended immediately.”

It can be recalled that, earlier, when CM BSY had visited the Yadgir district, the JD(S) party workers staged a protest by waving black flags at him. The police personnel, who were present at that time, took supporters of the JD(S) youth wing, chief secretary and MLA Nagangouda Kandkur’s son Sharangouda Kandkur into custody. HDD has alleged that the SI had tortured Sharangouda while he was in their custody.
