K’taka second in GST contribution, observes 14.2 percent growth

Bengaluru: As the Karnataka government is getting ready for ‘Budget 2020-21’, which will be presented on March 5, it has been reported that the state has contributed 73.6 percent towards revenue collection for the year 2019-20.

After chairing a review meeting on Monday at the Vidhana Soudha with the concerned officials regarding the tax revenue, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa gave the details of the tax revenue contribution of each department to the media.

He said, “The state’s total revenue collection was Rs 87,862.01 crores as on December 31, 2019, although the target was Rs 1,19,274 crores. Commercial taxes had a target of Rs 76,046 crores, but we were able to collect Rs 55,984 crores by December 2019. The excise department’s collection stands at Rs 16,187.95 crores, although the target was Rs 20,750 crores.”

“Similarly, the Stamps and Registration Department has collected Rs 8,297.65 crores (target of Rs 11,828 crores), Transport Department – Rs 4,864.8 crores (target of Rs 7,100 crores) and Mining Department – Rs 2,527.61 crores (target of Rs 3,550 crores),” he added.

CM BSY also informed that the state ranked second when it came to GST collection in the country, with a contribution of Rs 61,245 crores, marking a growth of 14.2 percent in GST collection.

Meanwhile, he has directed the officials to reach the targets set for the financial year 2020-21.
