Bengaluru: The police department has taken all precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the bandh on Friday. Various political parties and Kannada organisations have called for Karnataka bandh on Friday against the Supreme Court’s directive to Karnataka to release 10,000 cusecs of Cauvery water per day for 10 days to Tamil Nadu.
Speaking with media persons here on Thursday, N S Megharikh, Police Commissioner of Bengaluru said that around 16,000 policemen, including home guards and civil defence staff, would be on duty to maintain law and order in Bengaluru. “I am expecting the bandh on Friday to be peaceful. We have taken all precautionary measures to protect the public property and ensure law and order in Bengaluru,” Megharikh said.
The police commissioner said that one company of Rapid Action Force, 36 platoons of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), 30 platoons of City Armed Reserve (CAR), home guards and civil defence staff would be deployed at various locations in Bengaluru to maintain the law and order during the bandh. “Around 260 Hoysala patrol vehicles will be pressed into service during the bandh,” the police commissioner said.
He said that some organisations have planned to take out a rally from Town Hall to Freedom Park on Friday. “We will depute sufficient number of policemen, based on the number of people participating in the rally, at the Town Hall and the Freedom Park. We will take all measures to protect public property during the rally. The police will provide security for cabs if the need arises during the bandh,” he said.
