Bengaluru : Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized the crucial link between state and national security, asserting that a nation’s strength stems from the strength of its constituent states. He criticized the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for what he perceives as efforts to undermine the federal structure.

Speaking during a debate in the Legislative Council on the Governor’s speech, Siddaramaiah underscored the importance of upholding the federal system enshrined in the constitution. He lamented what he described as a decade of injustice towards Karnataka by the central government.

Highlighting the disparity in tax contributions and allocations, Siddaramaiah pointed out that while Karnataka contributes significantly to the central tax pool, its share in returns and grants has been diminishing. He stressed the need for a fair distribution of resources to strengthen states and ultimately the nation.

Siddaramaiah criticized PM Modi for dismissing concerns about injustice as attempts to divide the country. He also contrasted the Congress party’s historical role in the freedom movement with what he portrayed as a lack of comparable contributions from the BJP.

In detailing Congress’ involvement in India’s struggle for independence, Siddaramaiah sought to underscore a perceived disparity in nationalist credentials between the two parties. He suggested that the BJP’s claim to nationalism lacks historical depth compared to the Congress’ legacy.
