Kolar: ‘6,160 POCSO cases registered in last five years’

Kolar: Replying to MLC Inchara Govindaraju, who asked the Government about the information and steps taken to prevent the ongoing cases of child abduction and abuse in the State, Home Minister Araga Jnanendra replied to the House that 6,160 POCSO cases have been registered in the last five years.

MLC Govindaraju said in the Legislative Council that there have been cases of kidnapping and crimes against children in the last five years in the sytate, and almost five times more crimes against children in the last eight years. He questioned the action taken by the Government so far and how many cases have been disposed of.

According to National Crime Bureau records, there were 1353 cases in the State in 2013, while 7261 cases were reported in 2021. Of these, around 2563 cases are yet to be investigated by the Police since 2020 and the total number of cases to be investigated in 2022 has now gone up to 9824, Jnanendra informed.
