Police arrest six persons for robbing cab driver

Bengaluru: The Soladevanahalli police have arrested six persons for allegedly robbing a cab driver. The police have identified the accused as Ravish Gowda (31), Rakesh (25), Yeshwanth (19), Mounesh (20), Manish (19) and Vinaya Prasad (23).

According to the police, the accused indulged in the crime to provide funds for the release of their leader who is imprisoned at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru. The police said the accused had booked a cab from Gollarahalli on NICE Road to go to the Kempe Gowda International Airport on Thursday. On the way to the airport, the accused stopped the cab near Hesaraghatta and assaulted the driver Hanumantha Gowda and made away with his vehicle along with original documents of the vehicle, ATM card, Rs 6,000 cash and three mobile phones.

It was said that Hanumantha Gowda had lodged a complaint with Soladevanahalli police who swung into action and nabbed the accused. The police have recovered the car and other valuables. The accused had withdrawn Rs. 16,000 using the ATM card and spent it before the police could zero in on them.

During the interrogation, the accused confessed that their gang leader, Sheshadri, had instructed them to rob and arrange money for his expenses in the jail.
