Bengaluru: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will launch the Kodagu rebuilding work on December 8. A decision in this regard has been taken by the Kodagu district administration and the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
According to the sources at the CMO, on December 8, the CM will lay the foundation stones for the construction of new houses, for those who lost their properties and homes, on the 120 acres of land bought by the district administration for this purpose.
“In all, 840 houses will be built in phase 1. Every house will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 9.85 Lakh. These houses will have RCC roofs and two bedrooms,” said officials.
It may be recalled that the Kodagu district faced the worst ever flood and landslides on August 14, 15, and 16, wherein hundreds of houses and coffee plantations were destroyed, causing huge loss. Around 30,000 people were displaced while the death toll was 30. The bodies of two persons are yet to be recovered.
