Bengaluru/Chennai: In a rather miraculous incident, the 111-year-old Siddaganga Math seer, Dr. Shivakumara Swamiji woke up hours before the anaesthesia wore off, after surgery at the Dr. Rela Institute and Medical Centre in Chennai.
After having completed the complicated bypass surgery on the seer, the doctors and his attendants were waiting for the anaesthesia to wear off. Based on the seer’s advanced age, the doctors had estimated that the effects of the anaesthesia would wear off four hours after the surgery. The seer, however, gave them all a shock by recovering in just one hour.
The seer even shocked the nurses at the ICU by taking off his oxygen mask and asking them where he was. After regaining consciousness, the seer was reportedly confused as he asked why he was “surrounded by TV sets” after seeing the LCD monitors around him. The doctors and attendants then explained to the seer about the surgery and that he was being monitored by several machines.
The seer then reportedly asked for his junior pontiff Siddalinga Swamiji, who was waiting outside and asked his attendants to take him to the Math as soon as possible.
In an official release, the hospital stated that the underwent an operation to treat his liver and bile duct infection. It also said that the seer “tolerated the operation extremely well and was stable throughout the four-hour procedure. He is now awake and has fully recovered from the effects of anaesthesia. However, he is closely being observed in the Liver Intensive Care unit.”
Later, the junior seer told reporters that the operation was a success and that the seer has been advised to rest for four days, during which he will remain at the hospital.
