Bengaluru: A software engineer was arrested on Monday, September 10, for allegedly threatening and raping his ex-girlfriend at knifepoint in his apartment at Doddanekkundi near HAL. The incident allegedly occurred on Friday, September 7.

The police have said that the woman, who is from Gurugram, had joined an IT firm in Bengaluru in 2017, where she met Praveen Bala, the accused, who is from Kerala. They developed a frienship which soon led to them living together. They then quit their firm and joined another company and shifted to Doddanekkundi. Six months prior to the incident, however, the two split up due to irreconcilable differences between them, although they remained friends.

Bala lured his ex-girlfriend to his apartment by telling her that a parcel in her name had arrived. When she went over to pick up the parcel, he is alleged to have threatened and raped her after which she filed a compliant at the station, police sources said, adding that a case of rape and criminal intimidation was registered against the accused under IPC sections 376 and 506.

Both Bala and his ex-girlfriend were subjected to a medical examination following which, the accused was produced before the court. He was then remanded to judicial custody.
