Karwar: A fire broke out in a scrap godown at Alakodi in Kumta Taluk of the District.

A fire broke out inside a scrap shop owned by Basha Shaikh at Alvekodi in Kumta Taluk. As scrap materials were stored in two acres of land, the fire engulfed an acre of land and spread like wildfire.

Firefighters from Kumta, Honnavar, Ankola, Bhatkal and Karwar worked for over six hours to douse the fire, but the fire spread and caused panic among the locals. Some locals also vacated their houses and shifted from there.

The locals also tried hard to bring water from their homes and douse the fire. The extent of the fire increased as a huge quantity of raw materials were stored in the scrap godown.

There was no way for the fire tenders to come in and the staff had to struggle. The scrap material was completely burnt to ashes. Kumta Police has registered a case in this regard.
