People coming to dist from Kerala-Maha need to get RT-PCR report: DC

Karwar: In the wake of increasing instances of Covid – 19 in states of Kerala – Maharashtra, people coming into the district from the regions need to get RT-PCR report (72 hours) along with them, said Mullai Muhilan, Uttara Kannada deputy commissioner.

He was addressing the press conference at his office here on Friday March 5. “We have collected the information of people who have come from Kerala-Maharashtra regions and many among them are students, who have already been vaccinated. Since the last three months, no one from Kerala have come to our district, while others have undergone RT-PCR test and all have been tested negative for the virus,” he observed.

Stating that the district has no shared border with Maharashtra, he said that the concerned have been asked to keep an eye on people who come from Maharashtra through Goa and screen them. We are also taking steps to create awareness among people and also well-informed public needs to educate others, he added.

Only single case of KFD in district so far

Speaking about steps to control KFD, Murugan said that awareness drives have been conducted in places that is prone to the disease. “This year so far there has been only a single case that has come to light in the district. As it is difficult to conduct tests on everyone, we have informed the concerned that the people in the places prone to the disease need to get themselves vaccinated for the same to stop its spread.” It is a three-dose vaccine and as many have not come up to take vaccination, soon a meeting in this regard will be held at Siddapur, he informed and stressed on the need for alertness and awareness among public.

Spot redressal of problems    

We are thinking of addressing the problems in the hilly and rural areas and giving solutions on spot by visiting the areas once a week, he said. Murugan added that they are looking at how this can be done within the ways of administration and then take the next step. He also said that he will look into why whatsapp complaints that were being addressed to deputy commissioner has stopped or have become infrequent now.

Augmentation to tourism

Stating that a proper tourism plan will be drawn up for the district, he assured that tourism in the district will receive further augmentation and steps to utilise the current opportunities in the area will be taken up. Due importance will be given to provide basic facilities and its maintenance at tourism centers in the district, he added.

He also assured to properly implement public development works such as drinking water projects and others.

Airport project at Alageri a model

Speaking on the occasion, Krishnamurthy H K, assistant commissioner noted that public might lose trust if they are not informed and updated about the development project implementation in the district. The airport project which is progressing at Alageri is being treated as a model project and proper compensation for the people losing land have been provided. So far over Rs 20 crore have been provided as compensation to public, he added.
