Mangaluru: The Basti Vaman Shenoy Samaj Seva Awards instituted by World Konkani Centre, Mangaluru have been announced for the year 2016. Bhaskar Kogga Kamath (Uppina Kudru) who has taken age old “Yakshagana Gombeyata” (Puppet Show) Worldwide and got appreciation from leaders of many a country has been selected for Basti Vaman Shenoy Samaj Seva Award-2016.
Dr Olinda Pereira (93) who took service to the poor and age old people as her life mission by starting “School of Social Works” at Roshni Nilaya has been selected for Basti Vaman Shenoy Samaj Seva Awards (for Women). She started the “Institute for Working Women’s Development Centre at New Delhi. She also started “New Provincial House Association’ for disabled and aged persons in Africa. Returning to Mangaluru she got herself into launching “Vishwas”, an organization promoting house based care for elderly.
Kamath and Dr Pereira will receive Rs one lakh each, a shawl, citation etc at a glittering ceremony to be held in Mangaluru. These Awards are initiated by prominent Patron and Chairman of Manipal Global Education T.V.Mohandas Pai.
