Mangaluru: With the district reeling under acute sand paucity, the district BJP has demanded District In-charge minister Ramanath Rai to make sure that adequate licenses are issued for sand mining to ensure supplies of sand. BJP President Sanjeeva Matandoor, in a press meet said that the shortage of sand is an artificial scarcity caused due to non issuance of licence.

“There are as many as 1,364 applications pending before the District administration seeking permission for sand mining but district administration has issued only 406 permits for sand mining,” he said adding that over the last seven months, the district administration has imposed restriction on sand mining due to which cost of sand per load has shot up drastically. He said that the district administration must issue licence for mining to eligible persons after scrutiny, under new sand mining policy.

Sathish Prabhu, Kishore Rai Jithendra Kottary and others were present.
