Mangaluru: The deputy commissioner (DC) issued a directive stating that all private city buses registered since 2017 must install doors within the next month and submit an affidavit regarding the same.
Addressing the road safety committee meeting on February 28 at the deputy commissioner’s office auditorium, the DC emphasized the legal requirement for buses registered since 2017 to have doors installed.
Stressing strict adherence to this regulation, the DC instructed bus owners to implement the installation within the next month and submit affidavits.
He asserted, “No compromise can be made on public safety. There is no question of tolerating negligence. Intense public pressure and concerns expressed at public meetings have urged the installation of doors on buses. States like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh have already mandated doors for bus travel.
The presence of doors in Bengaluru’s city buses ensures uninterrupted public transportation and facilitates smooth traffic management. Hence, we will implement this in our district as well.”
