The anti-drug team of the Mangaluru City Police has apprehended five individuals in separate incidents, underscoring their ongoing efforts to combat drug peddling in the area. City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal highlighted these efforts, emphasizing the importance of curbing drug-related activities in the region.
In the first case, two men, Ashraf alias Ponga Ashraf (30) and Mohammed Alfaz (26), were arrested in Tiruvail village, Vamanjoor, on March 14. They were found in possession of 115 grams of ganja along with a mobile phone.
In another incident, Ummar Farooq alias Mangal Farooq alias Kunhimonu (68) was caught attempting to sell ganja at the Bola Lava Kusha Kambala maidan. The police seized 998 grams of ganja and a two-wheeler from him, amounting to a total value of Rs 52,800.
Mohammed Nizam alias Nizza was arrested near the railway overbridge in Padil for illegally selling ganja. The Kankanady Town Police confiscated 254 grams of ganja and a mobile phone from him, valued at Rs 9,900. Nizam had previously been issued a warrant for not appearing in court for a year.
Rajesh (24) from Ullal was also apprehended for failing to appear in court for seven years. He faces charges under various provisions of the IPC and Arms Act.
Additionally, Mangaluru City Police detained 56 suspects for drug consumption, with 26 confirmed as consumers after medical tests over the course of a month. These actions were part of a broader crackdown led by the anti-drug team of the Mangaluru South Sub-Division under ACP Dhanya Nayak.
