Mangaluru: A drunken brawl between the members of a gang involved in honey trap crimes made life easy for investigators as they scripted their own destiny after evading the eyes of law for 18 months.
Two members of the honey trap gang, a girl and a person named Keertan were found fighting near a lodge in Kankanady in a drunken state. The locals conveyed the information to the police after which the duo was taken into custody for questioning. The lady, who was drunk, revealed everything about the honey trap activities of the gang, which led to the arrest of the criminals.
Two persons, identified as Keertan and Kuldeep from the city, who reportedly were cheating foreign nationals by offering to providing Indian women to satiate their desires, were arrested by the police on August 6.
Modus Operandi:
The duo used to send messages to WhatsApp numbers of foreign nationals in USA and UAE, duly offering to provide to them young, attractive Indian women. They also used to enclose photographs of a lady who works for their group. They also used to circulate explicit nude pics of some unknown ladies. The ladies from the gang also used to make video calls, duly wearing provocative outfits. The foreigners who fell to the trap were asked to remit money to the account numbers mentioned. Once the money is transferred, the gang used to block the cell phone numbers.
During the last 18 months, the gang had amassed huge amounts from gullible visitors.
The police registered a suo motu case and have started investigation.
Pandeshwar police have arrested two of the accused and are on the lookout for other members of the gang.
