Kankanady police nab 7 on gambling charges

Mangaluru: Kankanady Town police have arrested seven persons, who were allegedly gambling at Kadekar in the Jappinamogaru village, and seized 4 motorcycles, 6 mobile phones and cash amounting to Rs 30,090, from their possession on Monday, October 15.

The arrested have been identified as Nasir (52), son of Moosa of Someshwar village in Mangaluru, Farooq (58), son of Chayyabba of Mukkacheri village, Thayyub Hussain (50), son of B S Ahmed of Kunjathbail, Prashanth (34), son of Chandrahas of Boloor Katte, Abdul Latheef (55), son of Mohammed of Ullal, Naizil Monteiro (36), son of Gladi Monteiro of Bendoor and Jameer Ahmed (42), a resident of Emmekere, Bolar.

Police sources said that they received information about people gambling near the Nethravathi river at Kadekar in the Jappinamogaru village on Monday evening. Based on this, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramarao asked Kankanady Inspector Ashok P and sub-inspector Pradeep T R to rush to the spot. Upon their arrival at the spot, police found all of the accused engaged in gambling.

Meanwhile, the police seized the 52 cards being used to gamble, 6 mobile phones, 4 motorcycles and cash worth Rs 30,090 from their possession.

A case has been registered at the Kankanady police station in this regard.
