Mangaluru: CCTV cameras should be installed in all temples coming under government and private management, said Minister for Ports, Fisheries, Inland Transport and Muzrai Kota Srinivas Poojary.
He was addressing the officials during a preliminary meeting on the Mangaluru Dasara at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office on Friday, September 27. For safety and security purposes, he opined that the temple management board should take immediate measures to install CCTV cameras.
The branches of tress along the roads where the Dasara procession will move, should be trimmed. Special arrangements should be made at temples to facilitate elderly people, children and those who are physically challenged, during the Dasara celebrations, he instructed.
Dakshina Kannada district DC Sindhu B Rupesh informed that offering ‘prasada’ in plastic carry bags is strictly prohibited and that the temple management board should take this into serious consideration.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha asked the public to alert the police department if they notice any suspicious activities or if they see any suspicious person loitering in their area. He also assured that round-the-clock security will be provided during the Dasara celebrations.
Additional Deputy Commissioner M J Roopa, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde, MLA D Vedavyas Kamath and others were present.
