In a heartwarming development, a man believed to be mentally disturbed, who had been missing for 18 years, has been reunited with his family. The touching reunion was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Center and the Shraddha Rehabilitation Foundation in Karjat.
The man, approximately 60 years old and hailing from Uttar Pradesh, was discovered on the streets of Mangaluru on May 6, 2011, by Joseph Crasta, the founder of Snehalaya. Following his discovery, he received care and support at Snehalaya before being transferred to the Shraddha Rehabilitation Foundation.
Basavaraj S Chinnanavar, a social worker from Shraddha, shared with TOI the heartwarming details of the man’s reunion with his family. After years of uncertainty, the man’s elder brother and mother, residing in Reotipur, Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, joyfully welcomed him back on March 9. The family had presumed him dead, and his unexpected return brought immense happiness to the village.
