Mangaluru: Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian took the horticulture and agriculture department officials to task for not informing the public about the government schemes and asked to print pamphlets and disburse it to the public.
Chairing the Mangaluru Taluk Panchayat KDP (Karnataka Development Programme) meeting at the Taluk Panchayat building on Saturday, October 27, Umanath Kotian sought the details of various government programmes ensured under horticulture and agriculture departments. Though officials of horticulture department informed about their activities of disbursing seeds to the farmers and the agriculture department regarding the government schemes on purchase infrastructure, Kotian was not satisfied. He said that many farmers were clueless about the government facilities. Hence, both agriculture and horticulture departments should print pamphlets and disburse it to the public, he said.
Meanwhile, the officials of agriculture department informed that a total 2512 applications were received demanding compensation under arecanut fruit-rot disease in Mangaluru taluk. Hence, the survey has been conducted and a report sent to the government seeking a compensation of Rs 4.31 Crore, the officials informed.
In-charge Assistant Director of Agriculture Department Veena informed that due to incessant rains, agricultural crops in Maravoor and other surrounding areas were destroyed. As the government has fixed a compensation of Rs 6,800 per hectare, the officials from the agriculture department conducted a survey and sent a report to the revenue department. The government is yet to release the compensation”, she added.
When the officials of Women and Child Welfare department informed the MLA about the problem of getting land to construct toilet at an Anganwadi centre at Moodushedde and another one functioning from a rented room, MLA Umanath Kotian asked the officials to send a letter to him and assured of taking measures in this regard.
