Mangaluru: Minister for Kannada and Culture Department and Energy V. Sunil Kumar laid foundation stone for Konkani Sahitya Academy Bhavan on Saturday February 26 near Urwa Store here.
On this occasion, Minister Sunil Kumar said, “to run any academy or office, building is very essential. The building construction plan was ready during the tenure of BJP National General Secretary MLA C. T. Ravi but due to pandemic it got delayed. Now it is my privilege to construct the building for Konkani Sahitya Academy. I will give all support that can be provided through my Department. And I assure to release fund of about Rs. 3 Crore for the academy building from the Department. Also I congratulate Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy President Dr. K. Jagadish Pai on this occasion.”
Further he said that language and culture are our connect to civilised society.
Mangaluru South MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath said that the building construction of Konkani Academy was a 27 years old dream. President Pai strived a lot for this. MLA C. T. Ravi though released Rs. 5 Crore due to pandemic hit it was deducted to Rs. 3 Crore. I have confidence that Minister Sunil Kumar will release the fund in coming days, he averred.
Dr. K. Jagdish Pai chaired the event. MLC Pratap Simha Nayak, Mangaluru City Corporation Mayor Premanand Shetty, Konkani Sahitya Academy Member and Spearhead Media Pvt. Ltd. Director Canute J. Pinto and others were present.
