During his visit to St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, acclaimed actor and theatre personality Nana Patekar emphasized the pivotal role of theatre in challenging societal discord. His presence marked the inauguration of the ‘Nehada Neyge’ theatre program, organized by Nirdiganta and Asthitva groups, where he underscored the significance of utilizing the stage as a platform for dissent and awareness.
Theatre as a Catalyst for Change
While distancing himself from political affiliations, Patekar emphasized theatre’s potential to cleanse the political landscape and contribute positively to society. He urged fellow actor and Nirdiganta founder Prakash Raj to prioritize creating plays addressing social issues over engaging in politics.

Patekar highlighted the importance of teamwork in theatre, stressing the need for actors to transcend language barriers to portray diverse roles effectively. Drawing from his experience in the film ‘Nat Samrat’, he shared insights that led him to establish the ‘Naam Foundation’ supporting farmers in distress.

Addressing the audience, Patekar emphasized the significance of voting, condemning apathy towards this civic duty as traitorous. He also reflected on the importance of religious harmony, reminiscing about childhood memories of hearing the Azan.
