Bantwal: In an act of kindness and humanity, the members of the PFI and the SDPI joined hands to perform last rites of a 65-year-old Hindu woman at Addoor, after her own community members refused to do the needful.
A few days ago, Sushilamma, a resident of Kuchigudde in Addoor was admitted to the Wenlock hospital after she was suffering from age-related illness.
As Sushilamma’s health conditions slightly improved in the hospital, her family members shifted her to her residence on Saturday. Unfortunately, on the same evening, Sushilamma’s health condition started to deteriorate and she died.
Poverty-stricken family of Sushilamma, which includes her two daughters and two sons could not perform the last rites due to monetary issues.
When they urged their Hindu neighbours to help them at this time crisis, none came forward. The reason behind this attitude is that one of Sushilamma’s daughters married a man from another religion and an evidently miffed neighbourhood did not want to be a part of the rituals.
However, when members of the SDPI and PFI came to know about the sad state, they rushed to Sushilamma”s house and took Sushilamma’s dead body to Badakabail Hindu crematorium and performed last rites as per Hindu traditions by paying Rs 6000.
