Mangaluru: National-level cultural extravaganza Alva’s Virasat – 2015 will be held from December 24-27 at Smt Vanajakshi K Sripathi Bhat Vedike, President of Alva’s Education Foundation Dr Mohan Alva informed on Monday, December 21.
Addressing a press meet at the Press Club here, Dr Alva said that Dharmasthala Dharmadharshi Dr Veerendra Heggade will inaugurate the event at 5.15pm on Thursday, Dec 24. The stage programme will be held from 5.30pm – 6.45pm. President of Nitte Education Trust Dr N Vinay Hegde will preside.
Veteran singer Padmashri and Padmabhushan awardee SP Balasubrahmanyam will be awarded the Alva’s Virasat 2015 during the inaugural ceremony, Dr Alva informed. The award carries Rs 1,00,000 and citation.
The four-day extravaganza will comprise performances from Mysuru Nagaraj, Dr Mysuru Manjunath, Vidwan Ganesh and Vidwan Kumaresh, Dr Kadri Gopalanath and team and Kalaimamani Shivamani and team, SP Balasubrahmanyam and team, Mumbai’s Ustad Munawar and team. Notable singers Vijay Prakash Karthik Chennai, Mahalaksmi Iyyer and team will also deliver performances during the event.
Alva’s students will also add colours through their folk and classical dances, Dr Alva added.
Alva’s Varna Virasat 2015
Dr Alva informed that alike every year, Alva’s Varna Virasat has also been organized from December 20-27. Padmashri Dr Manu Parekh has been chosen for the Alva’s Varna Virasat 2015 award. The award carries a purse of Rs 25,000 and citation, he said.
National level painting camp will be held from December throughout the eight-day event while another modern art form painting camp will be held for five days from 23–27 at Vidyagiri Alva’s Nudisiri Auditorium.
