Mangaluru: Artist Santhosh Andrade will be inaugurating “Art Nest”, a residence cum art studio cum gallery, on April 27 at 11.30 AM. The inauguration will be accompanied by an art exhibition. The event will be held here at Chilimbi Hill in Adarshnagar.

The inauguration ceremony will commence with the lighting of the lamp by Rev. Fr. Stany Pereira, Parish Priest of the Immaculate Conception Church, Urwa, in the presence of chief guest Rajneesh, corporator and former deputy mayor.

About ‘Art Nest’

“Art Nest” is the personal residence of Mangaluru-based professional artist Santhosh Andrade and is built on the family property of his parents Edward Andrade and Jecintha Andrade. The 1600 sq ft house has been converted into a haven of art by Santhosh Andrade, with the inclusion of many works of art in the form of murals, wood work, pillars and tile work. Some components of the house are made from antique materials sourced from vintage homes. Some of the art pieces are made from recycled waste, such as tile pieces and used bottles.

The primary attraction of Art Nest is a massive wall mosaic depicting an interesting combination of old and new done in Santhosh Andrade’s adaptation of Madhubani art style, for which he is famous. Yet another interesting feature is a traditional carved wooden door frame which has been adapted by the artist and made into an artistically decorated alter. Santhosh has also found a unique application for traditional clay ceiling tiles by over-painting them and lending them an artistic flourish. This could open a well of new possibilities for marketing of Mangalore Tiles, and give the ailing industry a big boost.

The upper storey of the house features a dedicated art studio with a working space and all facilities for the display of art works. An art exhibition has been arranged at Art Nest to celebrate the housewarming, featuring Santhosh Andrade’s works of art. The exhibition will be open to art lovers and visitors from 11 AM to 6 PM for three days from April 27 to 29. For further details and assistance kindly call Santhosh Andrade at 9036421815.
