Udupi: The locals have buried the carcass of a whale that had been washed ashore at Trasi-Maravante beach on Wednesday September 21.

It was rare pilot whale, weighing around 500 kg and was spotted a few days ago and a foul smell had begun emanating from it. The locals said, the Department did not take any steps to dispose of the carcass, the local Bacha boys team buried it in the sand.

Forest officials and officials of Mangaluru’s Reefwatch Marine Conservation Organisation conducted postmortem revealed that the whale may have died due to the pressure of the dry environment as there was no air in the lungs.
