Bidar: Due to unpaid electricity bills, approximately 3,000 liters of dairy milk were spoiled, prompting dairy owners to stage a protest by spilling milk in front of the GESCOM office on Monday night.
The ‘Local Farm’ dairy in the city had not settled a bill of Rs 1.30 lakh with GESCOM, leading to a disconnection of their power supply on Monday morning. Consequently, 3,000 liters of milk went to waste. Frustrated by the substantial losses incurred, the dairy owners brought containers filled with milk and poured them in front of the GESCOM office in protest.
“We had an outstanding electricity bill of Rs 1.30 lakh for our dairy. We had already paid Rs 45,000, and on Friday, we issued a Rs 50,000 check. However, without any prior notice, our electricity supply was abruptly cut on Monday morning, even before the check could be processed. We receive milk from farmers in 25 different villages on a daily basis. The milk we had in storage and other dairy products were all spoiled, resulting in a significant loss of Rs 4 lakh,” lamented the dairy owners, Shantabai and Ajay Biradar.
They further stated, “On Tuesday, farmers brought milk again, but we were unable to store it due to the lack of electricity. The responsibility for these losses should fall on the GESCOM authorities.
