Kalaburgi: A good news for the people of ‘Sufi City’ as the Kalaburgi airport is now set to get upgraded to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) standards.
In the meeting held on Thursday, January 30, Principal Secretary to Government, IDD Kapil Mohan had chaired a meeting with this regard and said, “In the month of March, the flight services to New Delhi and Tirupati will be fully operational. Hence, all the basic infrastructural work should be completed at the earliest. In coming days, the airport will be transformed into an international airport. People those who fly abroad from this district have to either go to Hyderabad or Mumbai to catch their flights. Many people, every year from the district fly abroad. For this, probably by next year, the international flight services will also begin. The infrastructural works in relation to this has already been completed.”
“The project is not restricted only to the development of the district but also to six other districts falling under ‘Kalayana-Karnataka’ (Hyderabad-Karnataka). It is very important that keeping this in mind, policies should be made”, he added.
Kapil informed that this project was implemented under the Central government’s ‘Udaan’ scheme. The airport would be having customs department, passport verification centre and many other services.
