Chikkamagaluru: The Deputy Commissioner of Chikkamagaluru has urged the citizens to celebrate the festival of lights with concern for environment.

DC Sathyavathi G during a preparatory meet on Wednesday said that to ensure that the celebration does not add to noise pollution, sale of crackers ranging over 125 decibels has been banned and that bursting crackers between 10 pm to 6 am too has been prohibited.

She said that any cracker dealer selling such crackers will face stern action. “The cracker dealers have to make sure that the stock is stored in a safe manner and that there is no room for fire mishaps. The cracker shops (temporary) will have to be made using non-inflammable materials and fire extinguishers will have to be kept ready in all the shops,” she said adding that parents have to be cautious while allowing their kids to play with crackers.

SP Annamalai, Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr R Ragapriya, Additional DC M L Vaishali among others were present.
