Hassan: The naming ceremony of a child by private persons at the indoor Kalyana Mantapa of Channakeshava Temple, Belur has triggered a public debate over the irresponsible behaviour of Archaeological Department officials and Temple Management Staff.
It has been a practice that except for Keshava Kalyanotsava in the indoor Kalyana Mantapa of Channakeshavaswamy Temple, no auspicious functions should be performed. The naming ceremony with cradle shastra without the permission of the Temple Administration and the Archaeological Department has drawn the ire of the devotees. Rajanna’s family members, who hail from Tarikere, performed the naming ceremony of their grandson at the Kalyana Mantapa of the Temple without obtaining any permission.
An official source said that as there is a rule that private individuals should not conduct any programme here, it was wrong to conduct cradle shastra in the inner Kalyana Mandltapam of the Temple without permission.
