Hunasoor: Karnataka Forest Department Forest Guard Vikram (25), from Veeranahosalli range of Nagarahole Tiger Reservoir, made the state and the department proud by successfully climbing the Mount Everest.
In April, Vikram went to Kathmandu of Nepal and started climbing the Mount Everest with the help of Sherpas from Lhasa of Tibet and reached the peak of the mountain on May 16, by climbing around 8,850 meters (29,035 feet).
Born to Chandra Nayak and Anasooyabayi of Vijayapura village of Honnali taluk in Davanagere district, Vikram is a post-graduate degree holder. After passing the examination conducted by the Department of Forest in 2015, he started his duty as a forest guide.
In fact, Vikram had shared his thoughts on climbing Mt Everest with then Nagarahole National Park Tiger Project Director Late Manikantan (who was killed by wild tusker). The ‘field man’ Manikantan responded and collected the expenditure for the climbing of Mount Everest with the help of donators. He also provided every facility from the department. He provided training in mountaineering training center of Darjeeling on March 17, 2016, under the guidance of Kundapur Division Forest Conservator Prabhakaran.
Along with National Flag, Vikram placed the photos of Late Manikantan, Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Dr. Abdul Kalam at the top of the mountain as a symbol of respect.
