Mysuru: The Committee for Development of Science in Schools (CDSS), University of Mysore, launched the “Mobile Science Laboratory” built for the high school students and funded by Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTPS) under the Special Development Programme. There are about 500 working science models in the vehicle covering physics, chemistry, biology and other subjects.

H S Chandrashekar, Convenor, CDSS, said the students in high schools, especially those in government schools had an inhibition towards science, particularly practicals. Every month, the Mobile Science Laboratory will be visiting 10 government high schools in the district. Apart from covering Mysuru district, the mobile lab will also be visiting government schools in Chamarajanagar and Mandya districts.

The lab, fitted in a modified mini bus, will be looked after by three teachers who are familiar with all the branches of science. The students will be explained the intricate points of science with practical demonstrations inorder to enable them to shed their inhibition towards science which they might have deemed as a tough nut to crack.

Earlier the mobile laboratory was launched by H Honnegowda, Managing Director, KSTPS along with K S Rangappa, Vice Chancellor, University of Mysore.
