Mangaluru: Participating in sports activities helps a man to become physically and mentally fit, said Coastal Development Authority Chairman Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde.
He was speaking at the city’s Mangala Stadium on the occasion of the Community Sports and Training Program of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, under the aegis of Mangalore Department of District Administration, District Panchayat, Metropolitan Policy and Youth Empowerment and Sports.
He said that students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes should have good health, both physically and mentally, while participating in sports activities.
“It is our responsibility to put more emphasis on many ambitious projects that the government has implemented to identify the sports talents in the rural areas,” he added.
He said the sports and training program is a good platform to showcase the talents of young people. He said students from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes should be well educated and financially self-sufficient with the benefit of various government-implemented projects.
District Panchayat Chairperson Meenakshi Shantikodu said that talented students from the backward community should be brought to the forefront of the society through economic, social and academical upliftment.
The program included Municipal Councilor Vedavas Kamath, District Panchayat Vice President Kasturi Panja, Nehru Center Deputy Director Raghuveer Sooter Pete, Mangalore University Sports Officer in charge Haridas Ploor, Mohanangayya Swamy, Former Mayor Praveen Anchan, Nodal Officer Vinod Kumar and Vinod Kumar.
