Genetics is been evolving since past two decades: Dr Girish

Mangaluru: Thank You Karnataka, a series of programmes organised to celebrate decennial year of News Karnataka and thus thank Kannadigas all over the globe for supporting the Spearhead Media Group to achieve this milestone.

One of the programme under Thank You Karnataka series is Arogya Manthana, a show on health which will be aired every Monday beginning from July 25.

The guest of the first episode was Dr. Girish K. M, Professor and Head, Department of Medical Genetics, KMC Hospital, Manipal. The anchor person for the programme is Dr. Anuradha K. C. Of Kakunje Ayurvedic Wellness Clinic, Moodabidri.

The programme was premiered on NewsKarnataka.com’s Facebook and YouTube channels.

Dr. Girish K. M opened, “I entered into the field based on my parents will and now I have started liking it.”

Shedding light on genetics he shared, “Like mobile phones and internet being the new innovations, the field of genetics too came in as a subject of study from past two decades and comprehensive study of entire gene sequencing is still under progress.”

“Any marriage among relations means one is at a risk of getting a genetic disease. Around six generations’ background are studied and analysed by doctors in order to understand the genetic diseases,” said Dr. Girish K. M. along with sharing the risk groups vulnerable to genetic diseases.

“If a women conceives post thirty five years of age, the possibility of down syndrome developing in the kid is high.”

He advised, “Development in the field of medicines should be restricted to the field only and should not be imposed on social norms like family and marriage. If so it will lead to the act of proceeding against the rule of nature.”
